Julie Saxe-Taller is the Associate Rabbi of Congregation Sherith Israel in San Francisco, where she has served since she was ordained in 2004 at the New York campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Julie graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Peace and Conflict Studies and, prior to rabbinical school, directed Jewish education programs in the Bay Area. She was a member of the Bay Area Regional Council of Progressive Jewish Alliance and, in that role, supported hotel workers in San Francisco seeking fair labor conditions. Since 2006 Julie has been co-chair of the Rabbinic Cabinet of Brit Tzedek and then J Street. Two decades of working with Jewish youth and parents has motivated her to develop workshops on talking with young people about difficult topics such as the Holocaust and the Israeli-Arab conflict. She and her husband Michael live in Berkeley with their son Sam.
