We won. New York will finally stop the devastating practice of prosecuting 16- and 17-year olds as adults in the justice system.
In the era of Trump, we just proved that we can still advance a progressive agenda locally.
Bend the Arc: New York leaders organized for a year in partnership with the Raise the Age NY Coalition to bring the Jewish community to the fight for juvenile justice in our state. Here’s how we made an impact:
- 300+ people attended community education events
- 77 rabbis across New York signed on to an interfaith clergy letter
- 75 calls delivered to target legislators in the final weeks of the campaign
- 8 letters to the editor submitted to local press in target districts in support of Raise the Age
- 4 lobby visits made to target legislators
I’m kvelling—and now it's time to come together to celebrate our victory! That’s why I’m inviting you to two upcoming events where we’ll reflect on the campaign, look ahead to what’s next for our chapter, and strengthen our skills to struggle for justice.

Growing up on Long Island, I wasn’t politically active. Now I wake up thinking about kids in Rikers. When I moved back as an adult last year, hearing the stories of formerly incarcerated youth and their families moved me to join Bend the Arc: New York. I’m so glad I did—it’s been incredibly meaningful to me to build deep relationships with and support the organizations in my home community that have been demanding juvenile justice for years.
Knowing I’m not in this alone keeps me energized for the work ahead. I hope you’ll join me to experience the power of this community and our Bend the Arc chapter.
