Bend the Arc Joins Legal Brief in SCOTUS Case Defending Muslim Woman Denied a Job Because of her Religion

Today, Bend the Arc joined an amicus brief in defense of a Muslim woman denied a job because she wears a hijab—without discussion of the possibility for an accommodation for her religiously-mandated dress requirements—in a case before the Supreme Court, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission v. Abercrombie & Fitch Stores Inc.. The brief, authored by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, was joined by more than a dozen religious, civil rights and civil liberties organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), The National Employment Lawyers Association, The National Association of Evangelicals and The Sikh Coalition.

Bend the Arc Submits Testimony to Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on Immigration

Today, Bend the Arc CEO Stosh Cotler submitted testimony for the record of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing entitled “Keeping Families Together: The President’s Executive Action On Immigration And The Need To Pass Comprehensive Reform.” In her testimony, Cotler thanked the Committee, and the Senate more broadly, for passing comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

Bend the Arc Submits Testimony for Senate Hearing on the State of Civil and Human Rights in the U.S.

Today, Bend the Arc CEO Stosh Cotler submitted testimony to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights, for the record of a hearing on “The State of Civil and Human Rights in the United States.” In her statement, Cotler highlighted the range of civil and human rights issues of concern to Bend the Arc and the American Jewish community more broadly, including voting rights, criminal justice reform and equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Bend the Arc CEO Submits Testimony for Record of House Anti-Immigration Hearing

Today, Bend the Arc CEO Stosh Cotler submitted testimony for the record of a House Judiciary Committee hearing entitled “President Obama’s Executive Overreach on Immigration.” Organized by House Republican leaders unhappy with President Obama’s immigration accountability executive action, which will prevent millions of immigrant families from being torn apart, the hearing explored the President’s legal authority to take such an action.
