A group of more than 60 people joined together in Northampton to launch the newest chapter of Bend the Arc.
Voters in California passed a landmark reform to the state’s broken criminal justice system. Bend the Arc leaders and volunteers played an important role in the coalition, contributing over 600 volunteer hours to the succesful effort.
More than 1,100 faith leaders serving more than two dozen religious denominations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia signed Bend the Arc’s letter to Congress calling for immediate Passage of the Voting Rights Amendment Act. The message was amplified by a full-page ad and an op-ed in Roll Call.
While pundits continue chattering about the meaning of this month’s election, one debate should finally be put to rest: We need a fully restored Voting Rights Act. When our courts call unlimited corporate spending on elections free speech even as vast numbers of Americans are being robbed of their basic right to cast a single vote, what does that say about the state of our nation’s values?
