Today, Bend the Arc CEO Stosh Cotler submitted testimony for the record of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing entitled “The Voting Rights Amendment Act, S.1945: Updating the Voting Rights Act in Response to Shelby County v. Holder.” Bend the Arc also submitted sign-on letters in support of the VRAA on behalf of a diverse array of interfaith organizations and a broad group of Jewish organizations.
Today, Bend the Arc and our colleagues wrote members of Congress in support of the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA). This legislation pushes back against the onslaught of bogus health and safety regulations passed and proposed in states across the country that single out abortion services. The WHPA would create federal protections against these state-based restrictions to protect the personal decision making rights of women and the health care professionals who provide the reproductive health care services women need.
Bend the Arc is calling out Utah Congressman Rob Bishop for what it calls his hypocritical actions regarding the Voting Rights Act. “I would like to ask Rep. Bishop," said Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc, "What happened in the last eight years that convinced you that we no longer need to protect the right to vote?”
Today, organizations who collectively represent millions of Americans of diverse faith traditions wrote to Congress urging the swift passage of the Voting Rights Amendment Act. Bend the Arc helped coordinate the letter which was signed by local, state and national organizations from more than a dozen different religious denominations.
In honor of National Foster Care Month, Bend the Arc CEO Stosh Cotler wrote to members of Congress in support of the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (ECDF). This important legislation could open up homes for hundreds of thousands of children by ensuring that otherwise eligible foster and adoptive parents are not turned away simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
