#13 UC Irvine

UC Irvine ran away with the regular-season championship in the Big West this season, which ended with a dominant 30-5 record (15-1 in their conference), at least eight more wins than any other team. The Anteaters capitalized on an emphatic regular season and scythed past UC Riverside (63-44), Long Beach State (75-67) to reach the Big West Tournament final. There, they sent a statement and hammered Cal State Fullerton 92-64. They carried that momentum into Friday’s matchup against Big 12 regular season champion Kansas State, draining three after three to put the game away and give themselves their 17th consecutive win to advance to their first-ever NCAA Tournament second round appearance.

#12 Oregon

There may not be a more in-form team in the tournament that Oregon. The Ducks’ overall resume isn’t anything to write home about, but shocking everyone and winning the Pac 12 tournament is something to build on. Their 23-12 record in a conference among the weaker of the big ones certainly didn’t help their case. For that reason, they were handed a No. 12 seed. Oregon’s run through the conference tournament was quite impressive as they took down the top three seeds to cut down the nets. Even more impressive is the eight-game win streak they took into the tournament. And after destroying #5 Wisconsin, the Ducks have a clear path to a Sweet Sixteen date with UVA or Oklahoma. Momentum is on their side, and during March Madness, that’s all you need.
