This election cycle, a recall of Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price was successful. While voters typically elect our county’s DA, as a result of the recall our Board of Supervisors will appoint the next DA. Voters won’t have another chance to elect a DA until 2026.
District attorneys have broad discretion to determine what charges to bring in criminal cases and whether to seek the death penalty. That’s why we must ensure that the next Alameda County DA opposes the death penalty, pledges to never seek a death sentence, and seeks to resolve the remaining death-sentenced cases in the county with non-death outcomes.
Bend the Arc has long fought to end the death penalty, motivated by our Jewish values. Our tradition teaches us that the Gates of Return are always open to those who seek redemption, and that every person is the image of God.
