NEW YORK - Following the release of a video in which Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump boasted of having committed sexual assault and the subsequent denunciations of Trump by many prominent Republicans, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, issued the following statement as Bend the Arc renewed its efforts to gather signatures on a petition demanding the Republican Jewish Coalition withdraw its support of Donald Trump:

"Donald Trump's incitement of hate and violence against immigrants, Muslims and others long ago made him unfit to be President. Now, we've learned that Trump himself not only condones acts of sexual violence, but brags about having taken part in these inappropriate and non-consensual acts himself. It is horrifying and, a year ago, it would have been unimaginable that this needs to be said, and yet it does: sexual assault is unacceptable and indefensible from anyone, much less a major-party candidate for President of the United States.

As more and more prominent Republicans desert their nominee, it is unthinkable that the Republican Jewish Coalition still refuses to rescind their endorsement of Trump, or even take the minimally acceptable step of condemning his behavior, which even Trump's own running mate has done. Now more than ever, we call on the RJC to end their support for Trump and make clear that his despicable comments and actions are fundamentally at odds with Jewish values, regardless of political affiliation. We also call on all Americans to join us in working to ensure that Trump's campaign of hatred and violence ends in November."

Bend the Arc Jewish Action first launched its petition demanding the RJC renounce Trump earlier this year, helping to create unprecedented pressure on Jewish Republican donors to defect from the candidate. The organization is also mobilizing Jews across the country to defeat Donald Trump through its "We've Seen This Before" campaign, including a national ground campaign to organize Jews nationwide to travel to swing states and join existing anti-Trump efforts. Previously, Bend the Arc Jewish Action organized a series of Vigils Against Violence in 50 different cities across the country to denounce Trump's hateful agenda. Bend the Arc Jewish Action has been a leader in the Jewish community combatting extremism and bigotry in this year's presidential race, including a strong denouncement of Trump's plan to start a government registry of Muslims last fall and their sister organization, Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, ran a televised campaign, "Heard it Before", comparing anti-immigrant rhetoric in the presidential campaign to what Jewish immigrants faced a century ago.
