New York – In response to the SCOTUS Masterpiece Cakeshop ruling, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“As Americans and as Jews, we affirm that discrimination is not ‘religious freedom,’ and pretending otherwise is an insult to those who have suffered religious persecution. We are relieved this decision was not the sweeping negative ruling it could have been. This case underscores the need for Congress to immediately pass the Equality Act, a federal law to protect the civil rights of LGBTQ people nationwide, including those in states that still lack explicit non-discrimination protections in employment or housing.”
