New York – Following Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's decision to invoke the ‘nuclear option’ to enable the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:
“Sen. McConnell has acted shamefully in order to ram through an extremist Supreme Court justice nominated by an extremist president. His decision to invoke the ‘nuclear option’ undermines the Senate’s centuries-long reputation as one of the world’s great deliberative bodies, all to advance President Trump’s radical, dangerous agenda--an agenda which the American Jewish Community overwhelmingly opposes.
“The Republicans who joined in this effort to permanently alter Senate tradition have put partisan interest over the long-term interests of the Senate and our nation.”
Bend the Arc Jewish Action has engaged in a nationwide campaign to oppose the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch. Launched last month, the campaign includes national phone banks urging a vote against Gorsuch’s nomination, with thousands of calls going to Jewish voters in the states of Senators seen as swing votes.
This effort is part of the organization’s Moral Minyan Project, which is organizing Jewish activists in communities nationwide against President Trump’s radical, hateful agenda.
