New York – Following reports that Senate Democrats have secured enough votes to prevent Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court, from meeting the traditional 60-vote threshold of support, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“Neil Gorsuch and his radical judicial philosophy have failed to obtain the traditional 60 Senate votes which have been the standard for nearly every previous Supreme Court nominee. The President and Senate Republicans must recognize that the broad and strong opposition to Gorsuch’s nomination indicates that the issue at hand is not the rules of the Senate, but Gorsuch himself.

“If confirmed to the Supreme Court, Gorsuch would place the interests of corporations over the interests of workers, enable discrimination against the LGBTQ community, and threaten years of progress on reproductive health care. Those who would destroy the rules of the Senate to ensure his confirmation to the Supreme Court are putting partisan interest over national interest to support President Trump’s radical, dangerous agenda. We urge the Senators opposing this nomination to continue standing strong with the American Jewish community against Gorsuch’s judicial extremism.”

Bend the Arc Jewish Action announced today that volunteers have begun a nationwide campaign to oppose the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch and protect the 60-vote threshold on confirming Supreme Court nominees. Launched last month, the campaign is organizing national phone banks urging a vote against Gorsuch’s nomination, focusing on connecting with voters in the states of Senators seen as swing votes.

This effort is part of the organization’s Moral Minyan Project, which is organizing Jewish activists in communities nationwide against President Trump’s radical, hateful agenda. Activists, who will continue their outreach every day ahead of the Senate’s confirmation vote on Gorsuch, are expected to reach thousands of voters across the country.
