New York – Following numerous new accounts of White House strategist and former Breitbart head Steve Bannon's sweeping involvement in shaping Trump administration policies, including the disastrous Muslim ban, Rabbi Jason Kimelman-Block, Director of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:
“Evidence continues to mount that chief White House strategist Steve Bannon’s white supremacist, antisemitic ideology is the driving force guiding the bewildering policies and actions of the Trump Administration. Bannon’s reported disagreements with the Department of Homeland Security’s interpretation of President Trump’s dangerous and discriminatory Muslim ban, which was suspended this weekend by a federal judge, is the latest example of his hateful views translating into executive overreach. Further, indications that Bannon drafted the unprecedented presidential memorandum placing him on the Principals Committee of the National Security Council (NSC), which the president was reportedly not briefed on before signing, frighteningly suggest that an avowed white nationalist is pulling the strings in the Trump White House.
“Not only does Steve Bannon’s nightmarish vision threaten to undermine every fundamental principle we hold dear as Americans and as Jews, it is an affront to American democracy itself and longstanding traditions that have kept our country safe and strong. We call on our political leaders to continue joining us in fighting against the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-American policies Bannon is seeking to implement and applaud those who have taken steps to remove him from the NSC.”
