New York – Following the Trump administration’s announcement of rulemaking attempting to circumvent the Flores legal settlement, which prevents the indefinite detention of immigrant children and families, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“The Trump Administration is at it again with its latest effort to cruelly, needlessly inflict suffering on immigrants.  Today’s announcement that the Administration will seek to detain immigrant families for even longer – and possibly indefinite – periods of time will violate a long-established legal settlement and is proof that the Administration will stop at nothing to oppress the people seeking a better life here, even if it causes long-term damage to the health and wellbeing of children.

“It is difficult to comprehend the callousness and immorality of Trump and his team. We express solidarity with our immigrant allies in opposition to yet another heartless and destructive policy.”
