Qualified immunity is a rule that protects state and local officials, including police officers, from facing consequences when they violate our rights. It allows police brutality to continue unchecked and denies victims their constitutional and civil rights. It’s created a culture of fear that enables law enforcement officers to use excessive force, violate civil rights, and kill people with zero accountability.
Congress has the power to end qualified immunity once and for all — but we need to make sure they hear from us now.
Add your name to tell members of Congress to cosponsor the Ending Qualified Immunity Act and commit to holding police officers and all state and local officials accountable for their actions.
We urge you to cosponsor and publicly support the Ending Qualified Immunity Act, which would eliminate the unjust and court-invented doctrine of qualified immunity and restore people's ability to obtain relief when state and local officials, including police officers, violate their legal and constitutionally secured rights.
