As members of Georgia’s Jewish community, we know that our state has made history when we’ve stood up for each other with kindness and decency, no matter our religion, our race, or our zipcode. Jewish Georgians are a part of our state’s civil rights movement legacy: we marched shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors then, and we still do, because we know that people power is what gets things done.
Those values — kindness, decency, and generosity of spirit — are what helped get all of us through a difficult year and elections that have often turned ugly. In the special election for Senate, some politicians are hoping their lies and divisive rhetoric will distract us while they line their own pockets and hand kickbacks to their corporate lobbyists. They’ve even used antisemitism to generate division and fear.
We refuse to be afraid or to be divided against each other based on what we look like or what we believe. As Jews, we believe that every person deserves dignity and respect, and that freedom and safety for any of us depends on freedom and safety for all of us. Our vote is our voice, and every Georgia voter deserves to have their voice heard.
That’s why we’re turning out again to choose two leaders who believe in all of us: Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. This is our chance to take our place in Georgia’s history by electing our state’s first Jewish U.S. Senator and the Reverend who held the same pulpit as Martin Luther King, Jr.
Warnock and Ossoff are ready to take on the issues that really matter to Georgians of all backgrounds, including Georgia’s Jewish community: tackling the COVID crisis responsibly, protecting our democracy, and making sure we all have what we need to care for our families and make ends meet.
Warnock and Ossoff make us proud because they represent the best of Georgia: big hearts, grace under fire, and respect and kindness toward every person. That’s exactly what Washington needs.
