NYC Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order adopting a dangerous definition of antisemitism. Even the lead drafter of this definition said its codification would be dangerous because of the implications on free speech. As Jews and allies, we care about ending antisemitism in New York City and beyond — but we see through Eric Adams' political stunt. In this moment where Trump and MAGA Republicans are carrying out mass deportations, suppressing free speech, and taking federal funds from universities in the false name of Jewish safety, using similar conceptions of what antisemitism is and isn't, we know that this is an effort to do the same right here in NYC.
