In response to the unjust detention of Imam Ayman Soliman, the Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis came together in a moving joint statement to say that immigrants, like Imam Soliman, “deserve respect, dignity, and–of course–due process.”
We applaud our faith leaders for standing in solidarity with Imam Soliman. As members of the Jewish community, we thank them for their moral courage and leadership and call on them to continue to take bold action.
Add your name to our thank you letter to the Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis.
As Jews in Ohio, we want to thank you for signing your name on the Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis’ statement regarding Imam Ayman Soliman. Reading your statement, it was clear that you were called to sign not out of politics or pressure, but through a calling of your Jewish faith, an acknowledgement of your role as a leader in our Jewish tradition, as well as out of a respect for your colleague and friend. We admire your courage and are grateful for your Jewish leadership in Cincinnati.
As members of the Jewish community and supporters of Jewish values, and during a time of heightened xenophobia and the trampling of democratic values, many of us look to our Rabbinical leadership for guidance. Thank you for speaking out for Imam Soliman in the name of your Jewish faith. Thank you for your moral courage, for your leadership, and for personifying compassion and righteousness at a time when we need to see it in our leaders more than ever.
We know that division only fuels more division and fear, and that an attack on our immigrant community does not keep anyone — including Jews — safe. We hope you will continue to take bold steps in educating the Cincinnati Jewish community on why and how our Jewish faith calls us to oppose these undemocratic policies and to be a voice for those who have been silenced. Your statement made us even more proud to be part of the Jewish community in Ohio.
