As a California resident and member of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, I add my voice to a broad coalition in favor of SB 493 — The PROMYSE (Promoting Youth Success and Empowerment) Act.
The PROMYSE act (SB 493) will help youth thrive by reinvesting hundreds of millions of dollars annually away from law enforcement and into public agencies and community-based organizations. This is an intervention that our communities desperately need.
It will also ensure equal community representation in grant decision-making and expand evaluation processes to include critical evidence regarding youth served and program effectiveness.
As a diverse community of Jewish people, we are called to practice Tikkun Olam, the pursuit of community repair. By declaring our support for SB 493, we’re telling our state representatives that a broad coalition of Californians demand care-first systems that give youth and communities of color the support and opportunities to thrive.
