Our Congresswoman, Representative Pramila Jayapal, has tested positive for COVID 19 after her Republican colleagues refused to wear masks during the attack on the Capitol.
She has consistently risen with us as an ally for justice and is taking bold action to hold those involved in last week’s attack on the Capitol accountable — including calling for the impeachment and removal of President Trump.
We were already outraged at the insurrection last week at the U.S. Capitol — an act of fascist violence incited by the President and his enablers in Congress. But now we have learned about an additional act of violence on January 6th — our Congresswoman and additional colleagues were exposed to COVID-19 because the same people who incited the assault on our democracy turned the insurrection into a superspreader event.
In Jewish tradition when someone falls ill, we pray for a refuah shlema — full recovery. The Hebrew words refuah sheleima can also be interpreted as a prayer for wholeness.
As we pray for Rep. Jayapal’s full recovery from COVID-19, we also pray that she will be able to continue the crucial work of bringing our deeply broken country and deeply broken world into wholeness, a vision we have yet to realize in this country.
Add your name to show your support — as a constituent and a partner — for Rep. Jayapal during her recovery and may we soon be able to join back together in the healing work of pursuing justice.
