Join Bend the Arc South Florida as we march to end child detention on Mother's Day!!
Part of the painful legacy of the Holocaust is how many bystanders failed to speak out about nearby Jewish ghettos and concentration camps. As Jews in South Florida, our duty to remember, lizchor, and say "never again" means we cannot remain silent or become disengaged bystanders as thousands of immigrant children are imprisoned for profit in our own backyard. That's why we are standing with community partners and neighbors to protest the Homestead Children's Detention Center and show our support for the children there!!
See more logistical information from partners below.
Please join Florida Immigrant Coalition, American Friends Service Committee, We Count and Homes Instead (the activists holding daily vigil and organizing on the ground), in partnership with Women's March Florida, Friends of Miami-Dade Detainees, Rise Up, Charlotte County Democratic Hispanic Caucus, ACLU of Florida Greater Miami Chapter, and other community partners and allies, for a Mother's Day action at the Homestead Prison Camp.
Join us to shine a light on the irreversible harm being imposed on our children sanctioned by the anti-immigration policies of this administration, fueled by massive profits, and maintained by secrecy couched in misapplied alleged government loopholes for the purposes of deterring migration. We cannot wait for the courts to deem this prison illegal; we need to shut it down and get the children in homes with family or other supportive non-profit transparent appropriate programs.
1:00pm: Concert for the Children (Leti Garza, Austin, Texas)
2:00pm: March and Rally
To get logistics and safety measures in place and amplify our message, we need funding. Please consider adding to this Mother's Day community collaboration by donating what you can. Any surplus funds will go to Homes Instead and/or other community efforts to shut this facility down and/or provide necessary resources to children upon release. https://www.gofundme.com/f/mother039s-day-action-at-homestead-prison-camp
