This morning, Senator Chris Van Hollen boarded a flight to El Salvador to personally fight to bring our fellow Marylander, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, home to his wife, son, and union colleagues who are advocating for his release.

As your constituents, and as Jewish Americans, we are writing to say thank you for taking up the case of our fellow Marylander Kilmar Abrego Garcia. We are horrified by the way the Trump administration is abducting and disappearing immigrants in our state, and our country more broadly. We are inspired by the way you are using your power as Mr. Garcia’s Senator to try to directly negotiate his return to our state, as well as the power of your platform to call necessary attention to his case. We see your initiative as an example of the kind of bold, courageous leadership we need our elected officials to take in the face of the increasingly fascist actions taken by our government under the Trump administration.
Again, thank you for everything you are doing and please keep it up. As your constituents, know that we have your back.
