This week, I had the honor of delivering our petition with over 1,000 signatures to Assembly Member Tim Grayson to say Jews in California demand money bail reform.

Our powerful coalition is building the people power we need to reform California’s broken bail system this year — and with the Governor, the Chief Justice, and the courts on our side, we’re making sure key legislators hear our message loud and clear.

In the video, Bend the Arc: Bay Area leader, Ash Lynette shares, “As a social worker, I’ve seen how bail tears families apart, perpetuating the violence it purports to ‘rescue us’ from.”

This is the immoral part of the current money bail system: innocent people are in jail, sometimes for years, because they can’t afford to post bail. As Jews, we can’t be silent as an unequal system tears families and communities apart.

This month, our Jewish community is amplifying the call of those most directly impacted by an unjust criminal justice system for bold reform and radical transformation by delivering our petition to key Assembly Members across California.
