On Friday, March 15, 2019, 49 people were killed in shootings at two mosque in central Christchurch, New Zealand during Jumaah time (Friday prayer). This attack on the Muslim community is islamophobia and xenophobic.
Today, we come together to mourn the victims of the NZ mosque shootings and hold their families and loved ones in our hearts and prayers. We will be holding a vigil for them at 3pm today.
We also grieve over the state of our collective humanity and society in which such depraved acts take place. We ask for safety and protection for our community and for the hand of hate to be constrained from wherever it might be directed.
