California State Senate: Support the VISION Act

Dear California State Senators:

California Jews call on you to pass the VISION Act (AB 937) and stop transfers from local jails and state prisons to ICE. The California Assembly already passed the bill — now it’s your turn to rise for immigrant justice.

In California, when immigrants and refugees have completed their sentences in state prisons and local jails, law enforcement voluntarily transfers them to ICE custody for detention and deportation — disproportionately impacting Black, Latinx, and AAPI immigrant communities.

But we have the opportunity to change that: The VISION Act (AB 937) would stop those transfers to ICE and instead allow our immigrant neighbors to return home to their families and communities.

In early June — because of the actions we took alongside our partners — the CA Assembly passed the VISION Act (AB 937). Now the bill is headed to the CA Senate. We must call on our senators to support the bill and send it to Governor Newsom’s desk to sign.

Our Jewish values drive us to organize for a just immigration system — one in which the stranger, the widow, and the orphan are treated as our own. That is why we became an official co-sponsor of the VISION Act.

And that’s why we need to take action to demand that the Senate rise with us and our immigrant neighbors by voting yes on the VISION Act.
