Last year, with your support, we worked alongside the (WCPA) as trusted allies to help change the culture of policing in our state. Led by impacted families, the 2021 WCPA legislative agenda succeeded in significant changes in policy, with Governor Inslee signing into law four police accountability bills we advocated for, plus eight other bills aimed at changing the culture of policing in our state.
We know the work continues — laws need to be implemented, new laws need to be passed to address policies, procedures need to be enacted so those in power can be held accountable, and our community needs to continue reimagining what safety and justice for all of us can look like. We all need to remember that since Initiative 940 became law 3 years ago we have still lost 120 lives to police use of force.
