Passover reminds us that our own freedom and redemption is not complete without the freedom of all humanity. All of humanity includes immigrants, which is why Bend the Arc: Jewish Action California is joining with our friends at CHIRLA to call on Jewish Caucus members in the California Legislature to make sure that immigrants in California are safe, by co-authoring AB 1368.
And it’s not just Passover. Welcoming the stranger - or immigrant - is a core part of Jewish tradition, mentioned at least 36 times in the Torah (Hebrew Bible). It is our story that reminds us that we too have stood in the shoes of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in search of safety and liberty. We cannot stand by while our immigrant neighbors continue to be caged, mistreated, and deported.
