Bend the Arc applauds House lawmakers for passing Build Back Better Act
This is a major step toward creating a society where we take care of each other now and for generations to come
WASHINGTON – Bend the Arc: Jewish Action released the following statement on Thursday in response to the House of Representatives passing the Build Back Better Act:
“We applaud House lawmakers for fulfilling the promises they made to the American people to invest in our shared future by passing the Build Back Better Act,” said Rabbi Jason Kimelman-Block, Washington Director of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action. “For the first time in a generation, Congress is passing legislation that centers economic justice with robust investments in our families, children, essential workers, air and water, thanks to the incredible work of activists and organizers who have been fighting for decades to build a country where every single person can thrive.”
“However, there is still much more to do. Particularly, lawmakers must follow through on their promises to provide a pathway to citizenship for our undocumented neighbors, friends, and family. While we would certainly have liked to have seen our social safety net extend even further, this is a major step toward creating a society where we take care of each other now and for generations to come. We call on senators to ignore the parliamentarian to enact a pathway to citizenship and join their House colleagues in delivering on their promises by passing this transformative legislation as soon as possible and sending it to the President’s desk for his signature.”
Bend the Arc: Jewish Action activists have taken a number of actions supporting the Build Back Better Act in recent months, including:
- Organized a digital rally with Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action with hundreds of Jewish activists and over 30 other organizations in support of a bold BBB package
- Organized a letter to the Biden Administration from over 50 Jewish organizations representing millions of Jewish Americans calling for a pathway to citizenship in the BBB package
- Led national and statewide petitions asking President Biden to support a pathway to citizenship in the BBB package, which he did in June
- Mobilized Bend the Arc members to take action through lobby visits, phone calls and emails from all 50 states
Bend the Arc: Jewish Action is uniting a movement of tens of thousands of progressive Jews across the country who are fighting for justice and equality for all. We are the only national Jewish organization focused exclusively on social change in the United States.
