NEW YORK – Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, the largest national Jewish organization focused on domestic policy, welcomed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly released report “Tackling Hate: The Mamdani Administration’s Strategy to Combat Antisemitism,” calling it a model for the serious, evidence-based policymaking Jewish communities have long urged the government to embrace. 

Bend the Arc leaders in New York City were part of listening sessions the Mayor’s Office held that influenced the creation of the report. Additionally, Bend the Arc was among the most prominent Jewish groups to endorse Mamdani in the 2025 mayoral race. The organization has consistently emphasized the power of Jewish communities working together, and in multifaith, multiracial coalitions, to win progressive change. 

“Jewish safety has always been bound up with the safety of our neighbors, and we’re grateful to see that principle reflected in the mayor’s report,” said Bend the Arc CEO Jamie Beran. “This report indicates the mayor is listening to Jewish New Yorkers — including those of us still working through difficult questions about what safety really requires — and responding to what he hears.” 

“We’re also encouraged that Mayor Mamdani refrained from enshrining a single definition of antisemitism, and that this report focused overwhelmingly on concrete solutions. Additionally, we appreciate that the mayor heard Jewish New Yorkers' call for investments in prevention, cultural competency, education, and physical safety, and that he is making those investments in a way that protects all at-risk New Yorkers, not only Jews. At the same time, we will continue to advocate for a vision of safety that does not rely on policing and carceral systems."

Beran added: “For years, we’ve pushed government officials to approach antisemitism with this kind of rigor. This is exactly what it looks like when a leader listens. This is why we worked so hard to elect Mayor Mamdani, and why we’ll keep working to elect progressive leaders across the country who will meet the needs of all our communities.”
