Bend the Arc: On Haley Stevens’ defeat of Andy Levin in the MI-11 Primary

WASHINGTON – Bend the Arc: Jewish Action released the following after Rep. Haley Stevens’ victory over Rep. Andy Levin in the Democratic Primary in Michigan’s 11th District:

“Our members are proud to support candidates who are ready to deliver on the promise of an America where everyone experiences freedom, safety, and equity, no matter what they look like or where they come from,” said Derek Pugh, Director of Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC.  “In Michigan-11, we endorsed both Democratic candidates, as they each met our criteria for endorsement on the domestic policy issues that are Bend the Arc’s organizational focus and mission – racial justice, economic justice, immigrant justice, and  defending democracy.

“We have strong relationships with both Rep. Stevens and Levin. We helped Rep. Stevens hold her battleground House district in 2020, and have worked closely with Rep. Levin on advancing progressive priorities and combatting antisemitism and its use by white supremacists.

“We congratulate Rep. Stevens. In her new role representing all the people of District 11, we look forward to seeing her lead even more firmly from her progressive values to fight for a more equitable country free from white supremacy, antisemitism, and other forms of oppression, where all people are able to thrive.

“At the same time, we are heartbroken to lose Rep. Andy Levin as a member of Congress.  Every day, he lives his Jewish values of fairness, commitment to justice, and building a better society for everyone. Andy is a great leader and a champion for the future that his constituents and all Americans deserve,  and we are looking forward to working with him in his next chapter of public service.”

Bend the Arc: Jewish Action is uniting a movement of tens of thousands of progressive Jews across the country who are fighting for justice and equality for all. We are the only national Jewish organization focused exclusively on social change in the United States.
