How Your Guide to Voting Progressively in California this Fall is Assembled

08/31/2016

Every election, a savvy group of Bend the Arc leaders come together to research the finer points of California’s statewide ballot propositions and produce a progressive voter guide inspired by Jewish values. Before the guide’s release next month, we asked the co-chairs who lead the process, Karen Ben-Moshe and Doug Mirell, to pull back the curtain on how the voter guide gets created.

California Hopeful for a Landmark Criminal Justice Reform Victory

08/31/2016

Bend the Arc leaders in California have been working tirelessly as part of a growing movement to reform the state’s broken criminal justice system. Following breakthroughs in recent elections, we are celebrating the unanimous passage in the State Assembly of a bill to reform the use of room confinement for incarcerated youth. The bill now sits on Governor Brown’s desk and Bend the Arc is working to ensure he signs it.

Victories in New York and California for a $15 an Hour Minimum Wage!

03/31/2016

Bend the Arc celebrates the historic passage of bills that raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour over the next several years in two of the most populous states in the nation. The bills also each provide a form of paid sick days or family leave. We recognize the sustained efforts of low-wage workers and labor organizers in achieving these hard-fought victories and we are proud that our #JewsFor15 campaign helped build support, especially in New York. Learn about our work to pressure Long Island legislators through meetings and creative direct actions, and our coverage on NPR, Newsday, and News 12 Long Island.

Income inequality is an economic crisis and a moral one. In 2016, Bend the Arc members, supporters and allies are working to help win minimum wage increases in states and cities where legislators or voters are deciding whether to pass a $15 minimum wage.

Voting Rights

After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, a flurry of local efforts are preventing the young, the elderly and people of color from exercising their fundamental right. Bend the Arc is working with our allies to pass new legislation to protect the right to vote for all. We can fix this if we act together.

Criminal Justice Reform in California

Our leaders in California worked tirelessly to win passage of Prop. 47, a landmark reform of our broken criminal justice system which will fund more schools (and fewer prisons) and protect thousands from unjust sentencing laws.
