3 programs for Jewish leaders launching this year

January 15, 2021

Did you know that in addition to campaigns to defeat white nationalism, Bend the Arc runs leadership development programs for Jewish leaders around the country?

Our leadership programs are part of supporting inclusive, multiracial leadership of the Jewish community, as we work to build an inclusive, multiracial democracy where all belong and thrive.

Project Shamash (Bay Area)

Project Shamash is Bend the Arc’s newest racial equity and leadership initiative (launching this year!) designed to spark a future where our communal institutions fully reflect the diversity of our community.Based in the Bay Area, Project Shamash will host:

  • A Jews of Color (JOC) Professionals Network
  • An Organizational Change Cohort for Jewish institutions, and
  • Community programs

Learn more: Join us for a Project Shamash Meet & Greet on Zoom, taking place Thursday, January 28th at 4:00pm PT. Jeremiah Fellowship (National)

The Jeremiah Fellowship is a leadership program for young adult Jews (ages 22-32) who want to join a Bend the Arc organizing team in their home city to fight for progressive change. Fellows will learn key organizing skills and take leadership on important campaigns alongside other Bend the Arc leaders and community partners. Learn more about the Jeremiah Fellowship here.

Applications for the Jeremiah Fellowship will open in April 2021.

Recommend someone: Do you know someone who might be a good fit for the Jeremiah Fellowship? Submit their name here to recommend them for the program — we’ll then reach out to them directly to give them more information about the program, and answer any questions they have.

Selah Leadership Program (National)

The Selah Leadership Program is the first leadership training program designed specifically for Jewish leaders working across the social change field. Since its founding in 2002, Selah has trained more than 340 leaders from over 200 organizations.

In 2015, Selah launched its first cohort for Jewish Leaders of Color as part of Bend the Arc's racial equity commitment. Our upcoming Cohort 17 will be the fourth cohort dedicated to Jewish Leaders of Color only. Cohort 17 will be a space for Jewish Leaders of Color to build deep, interdependent relationships with each other and support each other in their leadership inside and outside the Jewish community. As a result of our ongoing Covid pandemic, Cohort 17 will be an entirely virtual experience.

Applications for the Selah Leadership Program will be open January 29 - March 12, 2021. The application will be posted here, once it’s live.

Recommend someone: Do you know a Jewish Leader of Color who would be interested in Cohort 17 of the Selah Leadership Program? Submit their name here to recommend them for the program — we’ll then reach out to them directly to give them more information about the program, and answer any questions they have.

Together, we’re building the future we need by investing in and cultivating the leaders of our community and our movements.

We each have a role to play to — so we hope you’ll apply, recommend someone, or donate to these programs.
