Last year, a terribly flawed bill — AB715 — was passed into law despite strong opposition from teachers unions and the ACLU of California. This bill was called an antisemitism prevention law for education, but in reality, it stifled speech in the false name of Jewish safety.
Since it has become law, that’s exactly what’s happening. Teachers are afraid to do their jobs. When AB715 passed, the governor promised there would be “clean-up” language to address the problems with the bill. But this legislative session, the authors of AB715 introduced AB 2615 — a fake clean-up bill that we fear will make matters worse.
We need to pressure key lawmakers to come up with amendments to protect students, teachers, and education. The bill is currently in the Assembly Rules Committee. Send an email to committee members and your representatives and tell them to amend AB 2615.
