New York – Following reports that Steve Bannon, President Trump's senior counselor and chief strategist, has been removed from his post at the National Security Council, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action and Salam Al-Marayati, President of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, released the following joint statement:

“The removal of Steve Bannon from involvement in the critical responsibilities and decisions of the National Security Council is a major victory, not only for those outraged by his white supremacist, anti-Muslim and antisemitic ideology, but for the safety of all Americans. It also demonstrates that the resistance forming across the country to oppose Trump’s radical, hateful agenda is having a tangible and growing impact on his floundering administration.”

“Despite this progress, we must not be satisfied until all white nationalist influence is eliminated from the Trump White House, including Bannon’s removal from the administration entirely. Bannon’s dangerous vision for our country, which contradicts our most basic values as Americans, as Muslims, and as Jews, still holds significant sway with the President and his allies. President Trump also continues to employ other bigoted staffers such as the anti-Muslim extremist Sebastian Gorka, who was recently exposed as having publicly supported an openly racist, antisemitic Hungarian militia. We will continue to speak out against the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-American policies of the Trump administration and those who support and enable them.”

Bend the Arc Jewish Action and the Muslim Public Affairs Council  have been speaking out and mobilizing American Jews and Muslims against Steve Bannon’s influence in the Trump White House since his appointment; their November 2016 joint petition calling for his removal from the White House staff received over 29,000 signatures;  Bend the Arc’s petition demanding Bannon’s removal from the National Security Council received over 7,000 signatures.
