Solidarity Vigil

Description

The Alameda community invites all community members, with the support of the Alameda All Faith Coalition, to gather for a Solidarity Vigil this Tuesday, October 30, 7:00 —7:30 pm at City Hall, 2300 Santa Clara Ave.  Map: https://goo.gl/maps/eeMSs89c7FD2

Yesterday, a man went into the Tree of Life synagogue, where Jews were gathered to worship and to celebrate a baby naming and murdered eleven people.  This occurred after two other hate filled attacks across our country in the last week and bombs being mailed to National leaders.

On Tuesday night, we choose to stand together in solidarity as Alamedans of differing faiths, beliefs and heritages and in solidarity with our Jewish community.

We do so to say that we are all one town, one nation and that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are unified in our love for this community we share as neighbors. We need to affirm this, not only to the world, but to each other.

Here in Alameda we are in the midst of a heated election. Despite the increased heat and disagreement within the campaigning realm, spilling out on social media, in our mailboxes and our newspapers, we choose to stand together and display that in the end, we have each other’s back, we support our fellow Alamedans and we will not allow the violent National fervor into our city.

Please join us in an affirmation of our unity and in mourning for those we have lost.
