Make a call: Protect Free Speech, Reject S1292/A3558

The New Jersey Assembly is trying to pass A3558, a bill that would codify a dangerous definition of antisemitism into law.

As American Jews and allies, we understand the need for a robust response to combat antisemitism. However, we reject the New Jersey legislatures attempts to pass S1292/A3558 and codify the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism. We — and other Jewish organizations — believe that this specific definition undermines the fight to dismantle antisemitism and could actually endanger Jews and all of us by stifling free speech. The Trump administration is already using the facade of “fighting antisemitism” to enact a cruel, authoritarian agenda — and this would be another tool at their disposal.

Use this easy tool to call the Speaker of the Assembly, the President of the state senate, and your representatives to demand that they say reject S1292/A3558.

Here’s how to take action:

→ Have your phone near you. After you complete this form you'll get a call connecting you directly to New Jersey State legislators.

→ After clicking "Make the Call," do NOT press it again; there might be a slight delay before you receive your call.

→ When you're ready to be moved to the next call, please press * (STAR). DO NOT HANG UP.

Here's your script:

As your constituent and a Jewish New Jerseyan, I urge you to oppose any version of A3558/S1292 and any attempt to codify the IHRA definition. I am very concerned about antisemitism in our country today, and I appreciate the Legislature’s desire to be attentive to this issue. However, I believe that this legislation using the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism undermines the fight to dismantle antisemitism and could actually endanger Jews and all of us by stifling free speech.

The Trump administration is already using the facade of “fighting antisemitism” to enact a cruel, authoritarian agenda — and this would be another tool at their disposal.

Rather than a codified definition, we need a multi-pronged approach to fighting antisemitism and all forms of bigotry that uses the existing tools of government as well as structural reforms that ensure an inclusive democracy where every single one of us is safe, no matter our race, class, ability, or faith. Again, I urge you to reject A3558/S1292 and any attempt to codify the IHRA definition. Thank you.
