New York – Following reports of an anti-immigrant mailer distributed to support the campaign of Jack Martins, a Republican candidate for Nassau County executive, David Stonehill, a Merrick resident and member of Bend the Arc: New York, released the following statement:

“We are deeply disturbed by the New York Republican State Committee’s anti-immigrant fearmongering and by Jack Martins’ complicity in this dangerous, irresponsible rhetoric. Jewish Long Islanders reject these types of racist and xenophobic dog whistles in our elections and in our communities.

“We need leaders who are able to bring people together and work on behalf of all communities, not ones who stir up hatred for cynical political gain. Martins’ defense of this mailer shows that he is completely out of sync with the Jewish and American values that inspire us to embrace immigration, diversity and unity.”
