New York – Following the U.S. House of Representatives’ vote to approve two pieces of legislation which demean immigrants, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“The passage of this legislation by the House is just the latest example of Republican leaders’ determination to demonize our country’s immigrant community. It also indicates how Republicans in Congress continue to march in lockstep with the extreme, radical anti-immigrant agenda being advanced by the Trump Administration. The true goal of these bills has nothing to do with the improvement of life for Americans. The goal is to encourage hatred and xenophobia toward immigrants by falsely stereotyping them as dangerous criminals.

“Anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies fundamentally contradict our values as Jews and as Americans, which call for protecting and supporting the most vulnerable. We strongly urge the Senate to reject these deeply harmful and destructive bills, and applaud local and state leaders who continue to support sanctuary cities or states and advance policies to resist these dangerous efforts by Congress and the Trump administration.”
