Bend the Arc: Trump visit to Kenosha “designed to distract and divide”
Defending Kenosha shooter, promoting conspiracy theories, and blaming violence on media part of Trump’s 24-hour assault on democracy
WASHINGTON – Bend the Arc: Jewish Action released the following statement on Tuesday in response to President Trump’s visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin:
“In the past 24 hours, President Trump and his allies have launched an all-out assault to destabilize our democracy by promoting conspiracy theories, manipulated video, and vigilantism,” said Dove Kent, Senior Strategy Officer of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action. “From defending the Kenosha shooter, to promoting antisemitic tropes about ‘people in the shadows’ ‘pulling the strings’ and ‘controlling’ Democrats and social movements, and blaming violence on media, the president’s actions were designed to divide Americans and distract from Trump’s abysmal handling of the COVID crisis.”
“Trump thinks he can incite enough violence and chaos that voters will forget that Trump’s mishandling of the COVID crisis has contributed to nearly 200,000 deaths and millions of lost jobs with no end in sight. But we won't let politicians harm our communities to expand their own wealth and power. To build a true multiracial democracy, we must push back against the growing white nationalist movement which seeks to make this country only for themselves.”
Bend the Arc: Jewish Action is uniting a movement of tens of thousands of progressive Jews across the country who are fighting for justice and equality for all. We are the only national Jewish organization focused exclusively on social change in the United States.
