Friends, I need you to do two things immediately:
- Help this campaign reach the goal of 18,000 signatures by adding your name to FoodAidForGaza.org. It’s an open call from the Jewish community that says Jewish people support food aid for people in Gaza and an immediate end to the Israeli government’s food aid blockade.
- Send this post to 10 of your Jewish friends, and ask them to do the same.
More than two months ago, the Israeli government started a blockade on all food and medical aid into Gaza. Because of this blockade, there is now widespread starvation.
This isn’t the kind of thing we typically ask, so here’s why we are today: While Bend the Arc’s work is focused here in the United States, the urgency of this situation — and my Jewish values — make it a moral imperative for me as a Jewish leader to speak out. And I hope you’ll join me.
In the last year, Bend the Arc has supported a ceasefire between Hamas and the Israeli military and the release of all hostages. We demanded Biden's White House make good on his promise to end offensive weapons sales to the Israeli government. We went outside our domestic focus because it was a moral imperative and because devastation abroad threatens everything we’re fighting for here at home. Right now, the people paying the biggest price are those in the region: parents in Gaza who cannot feed their children or protect them from ongoing bombardment; Israelis still waiting for their captive loved ones to be freed; all those facing an uncertain future. Here in the United States, we have an administration using the turmoil and division this creates to hasten its agenda to disappear or shut out immigrants, destroy our democracy, and even remove our fundamental freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.
Like many of us, I’m feeling heartbroken and humbled by the task ahead. But today, one meaningful thing we can do is send a clear and united message from the Jewish community that shows we support food aid for people in Gaza who need it urgently.
Thank you for joining me in this urgent call to action.
