New York – In response to reports that U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan will include protections for Dreamers in the year-end spending bill, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:
“These latest developments show that momentum is on our side: Public pressure is influencing Congress to protect the Dreamers made vulnerable to deportation by President Trump. The courageous efforts of Dreamers, immigrant activists and allies are working. We must–and will–continue to demand a clean Dream Act, which protects Dreamers without funding deportation or detention of other immigrants.
The time has come for leaders in Congress to put politics aside and do what is right for the Dreamers and our country. Bend the Arc will continue to fight for the human rights of all immigrants, and to counter any further attempts by this administration to divide the residents of our nation into ‘us’ and ‘them.’”
