New York – Following reports that the Trump Administration is planning a massive expansion of federal facilities for immigrant detention, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:
“These plans by the Trump Administration are the latest escalation of its radical regime of immigrant detention and deportation. Rather than supporting bipartisan proposals to create a fairer, safer immigration system that keeps communities and families together, the White House is going all-in on white nationalism and anti-immigrant hatred. This is the vision of Trump’s radical aides like Stephen Miller: Immigrants living in the shadows, subject to an everyday threat of imprisonment.
“The American Jewish community will not abide this cruel, systemic oppression of our country’s immigrant population. We call on Congress to reject these destructive policies and to demand that government officials like Miller who champion them be fired. We will continue to work alongside our immigrant allies to resist and defeat Trump’s heartless, senseless agenda.”
