New York – In advance of the Senate’s upcoming vote on whether to proceed to debate on ‘repealing and replacing’ the Affordable Care Act, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“Jewish tradition teaches us that to save one life is to save an entire world. What, then, does it mean to strip life-saving care from tens of millions of people? And what does it mean to have no purpose for doing so, other than to score political points and enrich the wealthy?

Every Senator who votes for the motion to proceed is voting to destroy lives.

America can and should provide quality healthcare to its most vulnerable citizens, but Senate Republicans have shown they care more about serving their wealthy benefactors than protecting the health of the very people who voted them into office.

We stand with the numerous and diverse faith groups that are urging the Senate to abandon this appalling attempt to devastate our healthcare system. Our message to Senators is simple: it’s not too late. You can turn back from this disastrous path and show your courage by voting for your constituents, not just your party. But if you fail to do so, the American people will hold you accountable.”
