New York — In response to the Senate’s vote to approve a continuing resolution to fund the government through February 8 without including a provision to protect Dreamers, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“The Senate’s vote today is a moral failure. It is a betrayal of the millions of Americans who have demanded their elected officials fight to protect Dreamers. We are disgusted by those who continue to ignore their obligation to protect the immigrant youth threatened by Trump’s attacks. That is why Bend the Arc Jewish Action engaged in civil disobedience last week to demonstrate solidarity with the Dreamers: because families and communities nationwide are endangered by our government’s shameful failure to keep these young people safe. We thank those elected officials who remained strong and refused to give in to yet another effort to delay action to protect Dreamers.

“Already, thousands of Dreamers have lost their legal status and protections, and every day that goes by without a comprehensive solution means even more are put at risk. Congress must enact a long-term funding agreement that protects the Dreamers. With so many lives and the moral character of our nation at stake, inaction is simply not an option.”
