The votes are in: Before Shabbat, the House passed the HEROES Act — a massive $3 trillion COVID-19 relief bill that would provide urgent assistance for people and families across the country.
This is why, in 2018, we helped elect the most diverse House in our country’s history: so they could pass legislation our country sorely needs, like what you’ll find inside the HEROES Act.
The HEROES Act doesn’t include everything we wanted to see, but it’s a strong, urgently-needed piece of legislation for a nation in crisis — and it’s only possible because of years of organizing and advocacy, and quick responsive action from people like you.
Bend the Arc staff, leaders, and supporters are fighting for just COVID relief at the national, state, and local levels.
- Bend the Arc members sent over 1,300 emails to their members of Congress calling for immediate COVID-19 relief.
- We organized a letter from 23 Jewish organizations to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, demanding clear, moral leadership on pandemic relief.
- Our advocacy team lobbied with our immigrant and progressive movement partners before the bill’s introduction, securing crucial pro-immigrant provisions.
- Local Bend the Arc leaders from coast (Riverdale, NY) to coast (San Luis Obispo, CA) did texting shifts to drive calls to their electeds for stronger relief packages.
As negotiations over the next COVID relief package move to the Senate, we’ll need to push Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and every Senator to pass a strong bill that provides the real relief that everyone in our country needs.
Your donation helps us demand resources, testing, and treatment for every single person in need, and protections for essential workers.

PS: Looking for an explanation of how the HEROES Act could be better? Important unmet demands are: ongoing cash assistance directly to individuals and families, programs that allow people to stay on payrolls through the crisis, more protections for essential workers and immigrants, and the release of incarcerated people. There’s more to do. Your donation can help us keep fighting for our country to care for the most vulnerable among us.
