In 2018, the deadliest act of antisemitic violence in American history took the lives of 11 beloved Jewish community members in Pittsburgh.
As we mark the yahrzeit, my prayer is that we continue to work together for a country where every person can live with freedom, safety, and belonging.
It’s been eight long years, but the antisemitic, anti-immigrant, and racist lies spread by Trump and the MAGA movement that motivated the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter still threaten our collective safety.
As I write this, I’m reflecting on our movement’s work to stop Trump’s violent rhetoric, cruel agenda, and desperate election sabotage attempts. Everything we do together brings us closer to the multiracial democracy of our dreams.
I’m especially thankful to everyone who voted early, knocked doors, made calls, sent postcards, donated, learned, and more. Your actions are helping to heal and replace the fear and division that has brought pain to so many of our doorsteps.
On this day of grief, I hope you have support, connection, and care. And if you do want to be with fellow Jews in this final week before voting closes, you can join a Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice Get Out the Vote shift.
May the Tree Of Life, Dor Hadash, and New Light congregations be surrounded by love and support.
In mourning and eternal hope,
Jamie Beran
