BEND THE ARC: TRUMP ‘PUBLIC CHARGE’ RULE AN ATTACK ON IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES
Washington, D.C.– Following the Trump administration’s announcement that it has finalized its new aggressive regulations that would deny green cards to immigrants who participate in Medicaid, food stamps, housing vouchers, or other forms of public assistance, Ginna Green, Chief Strategy Officer of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, released the following statement:
“The Trump administration's new ‘public charge’ rule is cruelty in action: seeking to force immigrants to choose between having food, medical care and other basic needs, or being at even greater risk of deportation than this administration has already put them in. These efforts to weaponize programs that exist to help all vulnerable communities is yet one more reminder that Trump and his allies will go to any lengths to demonize and punish immigrants — the same ideology driving white nationalist terrorism.
“American Jews stand united with immigrant communities who face unrelenting persecution and threats from the Trump administration. We know the dangers when a government scapegoats immigrants and we will not be silent now. We call on all Americans, including our elected leaders, to join us in continuing the fight to treat immigrant families with dignity, to defeat Trump’s white nationalist agenda, and to hold the administration and its enablers accountable for their cruelty.”
