New York — In response to President Trump’s statements following Tuesday’s terror attack in Lower Manhattan, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, released the following statement:

“The American Jewish community mourns for the lives lost in this horrific attack. May their memories be a blessing.

“As we grieve for those murdered and pray for the wounded victims, we must also be vigilant of President Trump’s distressing and profoundly revealing response to this tragedy.

“After mass shootings and other acts of violence committed by white Americans, like in Las Vegas and Charlottesville, Trump and his allies have said that there’s never a good time to discuss policy, that it’s ‘politicizing a tragedy.’ But immediately after yesterday’s horrific attack, they were ready to exploit the suffering to advance their bigoted agenda, with talk of Muslim bans and ‘extreme vetting.’ This hypocrisy stems from the simple fact that Trump’s ideology is white supremacist, and his policies and rhetoric reflect that worldview.

“Americans of all faiths and creeds must unite around a firm commitment: We will not allow President Trump to exploit fear and prejudice to demonize immigrants, Muslims or any other group. Through our solidarity, we will continue to build a society founded on mutual respect and that rejects all forms of violence and hatred.”
