BREAKING: Judge orders Salah Sarsour’s release!

June 18, 2026

A judge just ordered Salah Sarsour's release!1 Our team is weeping tears of relief and joy.

Why did the judge order Salah’s release?

Because being in detention means he can no longer speak freely on Palestinian human rights. Judge Hanlon of Indiana cites a 1976 court ruling that, "The loss of First Amendment freedoms, for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury."

This is why Bend the Arc continues to fight the Trump regime’s misuse of Jewish safety to dismantle our freedoms — especially of speech, protest, and dissent.

Setting aside disagreements on Israel and Palestine in our community, Jews successfully rose together to demand Salah Sarsour’s release and protest smokescreen antisemitism being used to detain our loved ones and neighbors.

Now, we’re one enormous step closer to Salah’s freedom. The ruling just came down, so we’ll keep you posted on what comes next. Here are 4 steps you can take today:

📢 Make sure your name is on the record: Sign the Jewish petition to free Salah.
🗣️ Download the new messaging guide: How to talk about antisemitism and immigration, together.
🗳️ Prepare for the midterm elections: RSVP for the national Jewish election protection call on Wednesday.
➕ Combat smokescreen antisemitism: Donate to power Bend the Arc’s work in the critical fights ahead.

At the Jews for Salah Sarsour vigil this past Sunday, Salah's  grandchildren try to see him in the county jail where he is being held

We’re thinking of Salah Sarsour’s family, who led this fight, and the grandchildren he will soon get to embrace.

We’re thinking of the entire Jews for Salah movement, who showed up from all corners of the midwest last Sunday to rally for his release.

And we’re thinking of every family that remains separated by this regime.

As Rabbi Rachel Kahn-Troster shared in her reflection on Delaney Hall,

The safety of my family is bound up in every other family being safe. I feel that as a parent, a rabbi, a Jew. This is our duty as a Jewish community today: to stand arm-in-arm with all our neighbors. When we fight together, we fight for a world where all of us are safe — Jews, immigrants, and all people who live under the threat of authoritarianism.”

Forward together,

The Bend the Arc team
