We are heartbroken by the murder of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, two young Israeli Embassy aides shot outside an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
This horrific, unjustifiable act has left the families of Sarah and Yaron in mourning and has left Jewish people afraid for our safety. May their families be comforted among all those who mourn. And may our beloved Jewish community find comfort and safety today.
We know that this will only harm efforts to end the unspeakable hunger in Gaza and the unprecedented violence and fear in Palestine and Israel. And we fear how some politicians will use this crime to justify a political agenda designed to damage our fundamental freedoms and our democracy.
We are looking closely at details as they continue to emerge, but what we do know now is that no one is safer today — not any American, Jewish or otherwise, and not any Palestinian or Israeli.
