Solidarity

March 15, 2019

Yesterday, a terrorist attack took 49 lives at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

After the Tree of Life shooting, Muslim communities showed up for us, reaching out with calls and texts, joining vigils, actions, and Shabbat prayers. We must do the same for them now.

We’ve created a map to collect solidarity events being planned across the country — anyone can find or add an event. We hope it is useful in this moment and can be a resource as your community responds to the news.

Host or find a Muslim solidarity event at www.bendthearc.us/muslim-solidarity-events.

To our Muslim family we want to say: we are in solidarity with you and we love you. Until you are safe, we will never be safe. You are our allies toward liberation — a world without fear.

We speak these words knowing what it is like to have gunmen open fire in our most sacred spaces. We know what it is like to return to our houses of worship with terror in our bodies.

Today we remember the Tree of Life shooting. We remember the terror attack on our Sikh family in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. We remember the terror attack on our Black family in Charleston, South Carolina. We remember everyone whose lives have been taken by white nationalist violence.

We will resist through solidarity. We will create our collective safety through love.

As your community responds, we hope this map can be a resource.

In heartbreak and in strength,
